Cicadas!

I was visiting my friend Scott yesterday on the South side of Chicago (don't worry, the not so bad south side) to see his new house and to meet his roommates. Upon showing me his plans for remodeling his room, he showed me a small plastic container with three big bugs inside. He announced to me that they were cicadas that his roommate/friend, Amanda, had brought back for him from her sister's house (at least I think it was her sister; could have been her mother).

Anyway, I asked if I could take pictures of them, since my town hasn't seen any of these little creatures. Rather than take the pictures inside the house or outdoors on a tree or in the grass, my eyes were immediately drawn to some very vibrant flowers. I asked Scott to handle the bugs since I have a terrible of anything that's creepy crawly. Here's what me and my camera saw:
